Dr. Nakamura is a board certified neonatologist and pediatrician. He was appointed as the Chief Medical Officer of Kapi'olani Medical Specialists in 2005 and the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics in 2011.  Dr. Nakamura was born and raised on Maui and graduated from Lahainaluna High School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Whitman College and received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Hawai'i, John A. Burns School of Medicine in 1979. He is currently active in participating in Community Partnership workgroups that aspire to address non-health care related determinants of health. By doing so, the American Academy of Pediatrics concept of “lifespan science” can be fully realized by incorporating social determinants of health into medical education and health care transformation.
